Ballona Lagoon
Restoration Project

Ballona Lagoon is situated in the City of Los Angeles on the Silver Strand Peninsula, adjacent to the Marina del Rey harbor. Ballona Lagoon is a tidal channel connecting the Venice Canals to the Pacific Ocean at the entrance channel to Marine del Rey. Ongoing Phase I is comprised of the following action:

  • Excavating a deep pool at the south send of the lagoon.

  • Removing underground pipelines.

  • Improving tide gate operation.

  • Regrading and stabilizing the east bank.

  • Extending storm drain outfalls.

  • Remove exotic plant species.

  • Constructing public access.

  • Monitoring Phase I improvements.
