Through the combined efforts of eight state and federal resources
agencies, approximately 880 acres of the Bolsa Chica Lowlands in Orange Country were
acquired in February 1997 from the Signal Bolsa Corporation. Title to the property
is now held by the California State Lands Commission. Funding for the acquisition
came principally from the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles.
The eight state and federal agencies are now proceeding with the planning
and environmental compliance processes which will be necessary in order to design and
obtain regulatory permits for the Bolsa Chica Wetlands Restoration Project. The
purpose of the Project will be to provide for the most ecologically appropriate
restoration of the wetlands in the lowlands.
If anyone has any suggestions, relevant information, or electronic images relating to
the fish, other wildlife, or habitats of Bolsa Chica, please feel free to send them to Bob Hoffman.
